About the Book
Summary Thirteen-year-old Raphael spends his time playing video games, which doesn’t please his father, a taciturn sailor and fisherman. With his best friend, Michelle, alias Pierrotdenuit, he explores Junk City, a game about recycling urban waste. Zachary, a boy in his class, threatens him and demands to know who is hiding behind the alias. As Raphaël tries to protect Michelle, things start to go wrong with his father because of a silly tweet. At home, the storm is threatening. As if by chance, the sea chooses this moment to unleash itself too. Selling Points While reading Junk City the reader navigates between the real world and the virtual world. In real life, each character fights their own fight, whether it be gender ambiguity, behavioural problems or dysfunctional family relationships. In the virtual world of the video game, their avatars cooperate or confront each other to meet the complex challenge of recycling the waste of a big city.
