On February 27th, Saskatchewan Book Awards discovered that a miscommunication had occurred with the members of the jury for the Prix du livre français. Martine Noël-Maw's book Trois millions de pas had been mistakenly shortlisted instead of her book Le troisième souhait.
When we realized that this error had occurred, we conferred with the jury and decided that the most ethical approach was to restore the intended book to the shortlist. We then reached out to the author and the publisher to inform them of our error.
We apologize for the hurt and embarrassment we have caused for both the author and the publisher. Our policies for communication with our jury members will be reviewed with this unfortunate incident in mind.
Saskatchewan Book Awards is dedicated to promoting the work of Saskatchewan authors and publishers. We fully intend to continue supporting Ms. Noël-Maw and we will celebrate her work, along with the work of 30 other Saskatchewan authors and their publishers at the Awards Ceremony on April 25th.
